The Infrastructure Development Investment Program for Tourism (IDIPT) aims at enhancing livelihood opportunities for the local communities in Uttarakhand through development of tourism infrastructure based on development of natural and cultural heritage and community skills and capacities. The programme envisions tourism as a key driver in economic development of the State with potential for livelihood opportunities for the local community resulting from increased tourist influx in the state owing to development of tourism infrastructure. The project favours preservation of local environment and cultural heritage to strike a balance between the two with due participation of local communities.
The project proposes carrying out community based activities in around 40 villages of tourist importance covering all the 13 districts of the state. The facilitating agency is expected to focus on mobilizing communities in the villages located
